Saturday, July 8 (no rain date)

FLSC Annual Mr. Chris Nast Memorial 3-hour Kayak TriP

When:   Saturday July 8, 2023.  NO RAIN DATE!  It’s July 8th or bust!
Where:  Mick’s Canoe & Kayak Rental 3107 Route 563, Chatsworth, NJ  08019  https://www.mickscanoerental.com  (609) 726-1380

Time:     Arrive between 8:45 and 9:30 AM to check in with Steve Beach. We will depart on shuttles for the launch site at 9:45-10:00 AM.

Duration:  Approximately 3 hours of leisurely paddling with the current.  I ran this in mid-May, (with good current), and if you paddle, it is really just 2 hours!
I am planning on their “3-hour” paddle from Hawkins Bridge to Evan’s Bridge.  In July, the river level will probably be very low, and might have to exit boat and pull occasionally in low water.

Cost: $50.00 (plus tax) for single kayak rental, $75.00 (plus tax) for double kayak rental, $30.00 transportation fee if bringing your own kayak (NO tax apparently) Includes transportation to and from Mick’s.

Bring: sunscreen, insect repellent, sunglasses/straps, old sneakers or flip flops, workout gloves (optional), water tight bag, light lunch and water or juice (no glass bottles), towel and change of clothes (leave in your car) for afterwards.

More Info: Contact Steve Beach at [email protected] or call (856) 627-8565 (house, NOT cell phone) Leave message with name and number in your party.

Come out and enjoy a great day paddling on the Wading River!
Back to the central Pine Barrens up in Chatsworth, NJ!
The only drawback of THIS trip is that we need transport both to and from start/end, and also no bar/restaurant at finish – but, I have bar/restaurant covered…  Afterwards, we are going to Sweetwater Marina / Riverdeck restaurant – very cool place 11.3 miles southwest of Mick’s, right on the Mighty Mullica River!

Since I cannot get a group discount (I asked, but was politely told no), how we all pay this time will be different too.  I of course need a head count, so please sign in with me when you arrive on my blue truck’s lowered tailgate, as always. New Payment for this trip: NO Pre-payment.  Pay the day of the trip.

As far as payment, and to allow for use of credit cards that I obviously cannot take (Mick’s DOES!), I am just going to have everyone pay inside Mick’s store right there after signing in with me.  That will also save mefrom having to make change.  You will also have to sign a waiver when you pay for your kayak in the store.
It is never “too late to sign up”, but please either call or email me so that I can add you to the head count.  Also, the trip does not sell out. There is no maximum number of boats.

Please do not call me the morning of the trip and ask about river conditions or weather.  I don’t know any more than you.  If you are on the fence about coming, I cannot help you – decide for yourself.  We have run before and occasionally, gotten poured on mid-trip, so it can happen, but hopefully does not.  We ALWAYS have fun!
Children (accompanied by an adult) are welcome.  All rented boats will get a life preserver vest(s), although the depth of the river is usually only 3-4 feet in most areas.
